Teaching Philosophy
一期一会 Ichigo-Ichie
“Ichigo-Ichie” is a beautiful Japanese concept that translates to "one time, one meeting." It reminds us that every encounter is a unique and irreplaceable moment that will never happen in exactly the same way again. This philosophy encourages us to cherish each interaction, to appreciate the present, and to make the most of every opportunity.
In my lessons, I embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly. I believe that each session with my students is a precious, once-in-a-lifetime experience. My goal is to make every lesson not only meaningful but also enjoyable, tailored specifically to the unique needs and personalities of each learner. Through this approach, I aim to guide my students on their journey—not just in mastering the Japanese language, but also in connecting with the richness of Japanese culture and life.

Rinon-sensei, is a wonderful teacher who has transformed my experience in learning Japanese.
Prior to working with her, I had a number of unsuccessful ‘false starts’ in attempting to learn Japanese, which had undermined my self-confidence. It is often said that learning a new language is challenging for more mature students and, as someone rapidly approaching retirement, this was my experience!
